Sufjan Stevens puts out an electronic album

Pat,
I had no idea you had such pull with the indie boys.

  1. Ah! You know, I blame/credit Sufjan for Dirty Projectors. Vocally, at least.

  2. Don't cross me, people. I'll make sampling a requirement for all new releases.

  3. You know, I am all for a Songs-With-Samples Them.

  4. Theme. Theme. I meant to say Theme. There's no cancel on this thin.

  5. Pat-
    These "experts" here:

say this is the new electronic music I should be anxious to hear. As the one guy I know who can bolster or refute their claims with any amount of authority, I ask you, "Aye?" or "Nay?"
I have no idea if the punctuation in that last sentence was distributed correctly.

  6. I'm at work so will have to check that link tonight. A sample theme would make me so very very happy, but Deb very very sad.

So I shouldn't threaten all samples. Maybe just all electronic songs over 15 minutes. I notice that new Sufjan has a 25 minute track. Woo!

  7. I'm at work so I am doing this surreptitiously.
I will do samples. I will do electronic songs. I will do over 15 minutes (would we still get 3 songs each? It would be my first marathon). But I will not do more than one of those at a time.

  8. I think it would be cool to have a club meeting on a weekend day where the theme could be songs over say 7 or 8 minutes. 15 songs of 10 minutes is only 2 1/2 hours after all.

I would even promise to a cap of 15 minutes.

It could be the most awesomest Music Club EVAR!!! Think of how drunk we could all get when discussing the next theme!

  9. I would be so into that because
    A) I like awesome things. As this would be the most awesomest ever, ifso factum, I like it a lot.
    B) Drunks can be enjoyable (ie: ARTHUR). I hear I am a happy drunk. E plurabula, sanctum, I am happy and happy inducing. It's a win/win.
    C) I only have a few songs over 5 or 6 minutes, so it will be an easy choosing session.
But, I work Saturdays. Boo.(That is a disapproving Boo, nit the scary Boo.)

  10. Boo! (That was a scary Boo.) It was scary because I am coming out of NO WHERE to chime in on this theme because

    1) I want to be part of the awesomeness
    B) I too, am a happy, happy drunk. I have the proper credentials!
    III. I promise I wouldn't play Aja.
    d. I miss music club. Can we schedule one for when I'm in town, in December??

    That is all.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes, the December music club with Gina should be a tradition! It will be filled with awesomeness, sampling, nonchalant vocals, sad songs, Mark Lanegan, Rush (if Larry shows up). Oh my, I can't contain myself.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm all for traditions, but why can't I bring Rush?
Also, it appears from the rest of your list that Sampling is Pat (all those sampling songs), Marcy is nonchalant vocals (The Malkmus), Greg is Sad Songs (Oh, poor Greg), I unfortunately am Mark Lanegan (I'm really starting to resent that guy) so I'm assuming Deb gets to be awesomeness? Oh come on, she's all about the Singer Songwriter. I want to be awesomeness, but I understand how I've dug this Lanegan shaped grave so I might as well lie in it. Ew, clammy.

  13. Jim, if you have Rush then you certainly have more than a few songs over 5 minutes.

You could also be the Happy Drunk that though Marcy didn't mention would certainly have to be in the mix.

Just like I could revert to Creepy Tango Guy instead of The Sampler.

  14. Curses, how to break free from the dreaded singer/songwriter label... Hmm, I may have to rethink my choices of cover songs.

  15. Deb-
You introduced yourself to me as loving Singer Songwriters. Just as I introduced myself as loving What's-His-Face. We must both break free of these constricting labels.
Remember me? I'm Horn-Intro guy. Which is also lame.

  16. Drats, I boxed myself in... Time to reinvent myself and rise from the ashes, much like the phoenix.

  18. Oops, I tried to edit and ended up deleting.

I think Gina is the Id or whatever part of the mind connects to an emotional bond with a song.

I'm not sure that makes sense and would edit it further, but we all know I would just end up accidentally deleting again.

  19. To be honest, I confuse Gina with Eric with Larry. I see them all sooo rarely.
Which one likes Blossom Dearie? Which one hates Mike McCready? Which put that KICK ME sticker on my back?

    ReplyDelete
  20. The KICK ME sticker was me. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I kind of knew that.

By the BTW, it was Maid Marian. http://26.media.tumblr.com/pIekbTDCVpf8c7lr0Slhy1Tto1_400.jpg

Also, does anyone do a cover of Sad Songs Say So Much?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ooo, Maid Marian's Id! I love it! (Bonus: There's my next Halloween outfit - if I ever dress up for Halloween again)
Pat, I think you hit the nail on the head - Id songs! Big ole emotional music. Thanks - I have a music club identity!

  23. You can tell we are a serious Music Club. Our conversations start at Sufjan Stevens' foray into electronic music, move through drinking, and end with Maid Marian. Happens every time, but usually starting with The Decemberists.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes, very serious. mumble mumble mumble MUSIC mumble mumble BON IVER mumble. Lady Gaga. Oops!!

I LOVE The Cave Singers and The Moondoggies are super fun live. It's Matt's bday dinner that night. I'm guessing he would say "Hell yes" but not sure what's the plan after dinner.

  28. Oh, and me, too, for the show. I got my ticket to Cave Singers 2 days ago. I will see you there. Carol, unfortunately, can't go.
