I think I like songs with shouting in them.

It hit me while driving home tonight. Not screaming; shouting. (Although, I don't mind screaming! Sometime I love it!) Cases in point: Cake, Fred Schneider of the B-52s.

  2. Does Cake shout? I always thought he just talked.
Fred shouts. Or at least he has no inside voice.
I like when Ian Makaye shouts. And I like the whole pub-chant kind of shout thing like in Chelsea Dagger and Blitzkrieg Bop. Doesn't Gary Glitter do something like that, too?
Is there a telephone song with shouting? I want to hear that! I mean, I WANT TO HEAR THAT!!

  3. Does Hold Steady count as a shouting band? I kinda think they do but I am not an expert. I will defer to Greg or Pat.

  4. I think THS is just talking in a bar, trying to be heard above the racket. He should get a mic.
I think shouts should be reserved to WOO-HOO, ALRIGHT, and YEAH.
And I CAN'T HEAR YOU. I SAID...ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?
    Maybe just GUITAR, though.

  5. Not the Cake guy; the guys in the background ("You're never there!!!") You're on the money with Chelsea Dagger (I didn't know the name of that song before now) and Blitzkrieg Bop! Fugazi's a little screamy, for me.
Telephone songs... You Know My Name (Look Up the Number?

I meant, YOU'RE ON THE MONEY!

  7. I DON'T THINK SHOUTING SONGS RESONATE WITH ME, I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO THINK OF SONGS WITH SHOUTING AND ALL I COME UP WITH IS "LOVE SHACK". Singer songwriters aren't generally known for their shouting. Hmm, now I'm trying to think of whispering songs.

  8. You know, lots of people take rap songs, punk songs, metal song and cover them in a singer-songwritery kind of way, all acoustic and stuff. I want to hear someone do a FIRE AND RAIN in a shouty way.
    Fugazi doing BROKE DOWN. Sweet.
The Hold Steady doing PEACE TRAIN. Hmm... actually that's probably not so good.
