Speaking of the Final Countdown Dr. T...

Me thinks this has the makings of a totally tubular MC Theme...

"RS Poll names worst songs of the 80s"

1 - Starship - 'We Built This City'
2 - Europe - 'The Final Countdown'
3 - Chris De Burgh - 'Lady In Red'
4 - Wham! - 'Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go'

  1. I really like three of those. Probably best not to say which ones.

  2. I only feel sorry for Taco because he didn't actually write the song so he doesn't get writing royalties.
I'm guessing the 3 songs close to Pat's heart are:
Men Without Hats - 'The Safety Dance' (the video's slightly Time Banditsy feel)
Taco - 'Puttin' On The Ritz' (Young Frankenstein memories)
Rick Astley - 'Never Gonna Give You Up' (his Sunny Jim in a trench coat style and sexy dancing in his video)

  3. Speaking of Time Bandits, did anyone see the George Harrison documentary on HBO?

  4. Missed the documentary but am intrigued....

Jim, you got one of them.

5 - Men Without Hats - 'The Safety Dance'
    6 - Falco - 'Rock Me Amadeus'

  11. It's not called go down the list. It's called being methodical. I have a methodica.

  12. "Hello" by Lionel Richie is so much worse than Falco!
I am here to defend 'Rock Me Amadeus' even though Chopin in my favorite composer.

  13. Greg, you are also one for three. For the record gina m is guessing via email. She was 0 for 3.

  14. A hint. if you look at the numbers like the lucky spin groupings in The Game of Life then each group would contain one song.

That totally makes sense to me. But then, I know the answers.

Also, I am aware that once you know the answers you will forever think less of my misical "taste". But at least I can appreciate the DH rule.

  15. Listen, you.
1 from each group could be just Men Without Hats, which we all guessed, with the other two being from the group of Starship, Europe, and McFerrin.
OR one is either Taco or Rick Astley, another is either Wham! or Falco and the third is either Toni or Chris. I can't work under these conditions. I must know Gina M's choices. Why is she using email? What is she afraid of?

  16. Fair point. Gina's picks:
    Toni Basil
    Men without hats
    Starship. God I hated Starship.

Also, by groups I meant the original list, not your guesses.

  17. You should have one for certain now.

  18. I heard someone talking about me...
    here is my strikeout list:
    #8 mickey
    #5 safety dance
    #1 we built this city

power of deduction one of the songs must be:
    lady in red

  19. Lady In Red is indeed one of the three.

Ed's picks: Men w/o hats, falco and taco. He has one correct.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Are you okay with the fact that everyone thinks you like Men Without Hats?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh, Hi Gina. Didn't expect to see you here. I didn't really think you were afraid, you know.
Nothing wrong with Men without Hats. I guess my 3 choices were probably my actual choices.

  22. okay so it seems there are now 2 options:
    Option A:
    lady in red
    falco
    rick astley

    Option B:
    lady in red
    puttin on the ritz
    wham

my new vote is option A!

  23. Marcy, I've been trying to figure out what to think of the whole Pat = Loves The Safety Dance thing.

I have no answer. For the record I thought it was OK but forgot it even existed after it stopped being on MTV.

  24. Don't watch this if you don't like swearing or if do like Lady in Red
    Pat.
I'm talking to you, you delicate flower.

  25. That was awesome.

And for those not around for the unveiling Friday night, the three songs were:

    Lady in Red
    Puttin' On The Ritz
Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go

    I'll see myself out.
