Throwing out a date!

What's better for everyone? The first or second Thursday in February?

Does anyone need any lifelines?

  1. Either Thursday works. I would like three lifelines please. This is the hardest music club ever.

  2. Either works for me.
This actually is kind of hard. I don't want to end up offending Anony... I mean, Pat. Or anyone for that matter.
You know, I think this whole Zodiac hullabaloo is just making me confused. I don't know myself anymore. How am I supposed to choose as Pat if I've never even been to me?

  3. Thank god I'm still a Leo. Although that's not helping me pick songs for Marcy. I'm so afraid of failure.

  4. Oh, still a LEO? You're so lucky.

  5. Zodiac hullabaloo? wha?

Lifeline #1 - Any song that sounds like it could have been on the Dream Girls soundtrack is not an option.

  6. Wow. Really? Are you on drugs for your ankle still, or what?
    What about this?

  7. Oh dear, you haven't heard the news, new astrological signs, 13 of them, you are now Ophiuchus. But you'll always be a Sag to me. Hmm, could there be musical inspiration there, no...

  8. "You'll always be a Sag to me."
Third sweetest thing ever said on this blog. I may cry.

  9. This is why Music Club is so awesome:
    1. Diversity! See, anything that sounds like the soundtrack of Dreamgirls would totally be an option for me - especially the soundtrack of Dreamgirls
    2. Zodiac newsflash! But there is NO possible way I'm a Virgo (or Drayson a Pieces?? Ha!!)
    3. Touching moments! "Third sweetest thing ever said on this blog. I may cry." Awww.

  10. Did we decide on a Thursday? I kind of want to choose the later one so I can have more time, but that implies more time will help me choose wisely. I suspect I will only lose more sleep the more time i have. Maybe the earlier one is best. Get it over with. Like ripping off the bandaid quickly.
Did i mention at all that I haven't made a single choice?
Did I mention that when I suggested this theme, I had given absolutely no thought to it. The theme occurred to me and i blurted it out. What if it was a theme I didn't actually have the ability to do? What if this particular theme might actually do me harm? Did I think of that? No. Into my head, out of my mouth, done. Now I have to live with it.
I think I made a New Year Resolution to plan better. "Plan Ahead" is my new motto. Catchy. I'm going to make buttons and print t-shirts. Later, I mean. Someday. I'm working on it. Maybe I should do something about procrastination.

  11. Let's go with Feb. 3rd. You don't want to be too sleep-deprived heading into Valentine's Day.
Don't you have Pat anyway? Beck sampling electronica. Done.

  12. Oh, I know Pat seems like a no-brainer (no offense), but he turns out to be a much more nuanced character. He has depth and subtlety we might not fully appreciate.
He's already played a Beck song, so going with an actual Beck song is too easy. Something Beckian perhaps? What is Beckish without being Beck?
Sampling seems a good way to go. Most Hip-Hop has sampling, but i don't recall him choosing any Hip-Hop for previous themes. Marcy chose Hip-Hop, but I would say she is big on sampling.
Electronica. I have discovered that there is good Electonica and there is bad Electronica. I would like to think Pat can tell the difference. I find that I can not.
Maybe I'm thinking too much. Maybe it is to counter the times I don't think enough.
The third of Feb sounds good.

  13. This theme has reminded me of all my inadequacies. Is it possible to call in sick for Music Club?

  14. yes you can, and if you can i can, right?

hey, anybody interested in going to see Cotton Jones at the tractor? Feb 12th...

    ReplyDelete
  15. I know, right?
I did not sleep last night. It was not because of Music Club, but let's say it was. That's not good. You see my point?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm in for The Tractor. I tried to pull Cottom James on grooveshark but there is also a James Cotton who I guess was a blues guy. I just remember James Cotton the actor. Are they the same? And is Cotton James really his name or some sly homage?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Cotton Jones... not cottom james... or james cotton...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jones / James / Jim
You can see how confusing it all is. Thanks!

  19. I don't understand why Grog and Marky Mark are talking about the Cotton Gin. Although I must say I like me a good Martini.
    Sincerely,
    Gym Jones

    ReplyDelete
  20. You know what else I don't understand?
Why do I like that "Hey, Lloyd, are you ready to be heartbroken?" song so much? It just came on the ipod and I am enjoying it like all get out. I don't even know what any of the other words are.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Would anyone object to a swap? Greg, I'll swap my person for yours... Or am I only kidding myself?
I like the Tractor, and find cotton to be a fine fabric so I would probably like cotton jones...

  22. We can switch? Who's got me? You wanna switch?

During your Tractor outing I will be in SF doing Valentiny stuff. Sorry to miss Joseph Cotten.

  23. I'm late to the party but just wanted to say a couple things:

    1) I am not Anonymous. Well, maybe one time.
    2) I do have depth and subtlety that may not be fully appreciated. Example: The Books.
    3) There is indeed good and bad electronica. I trust Jim to know the difference.
    4) I need clarification. I thought we were picking things out of our collection that our intended victim would like. If that is so, I would expect that any electronica in Jim's collection would already be defined by him as good and/or bad.
    5) Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken is an excellent song.
    6) I thought Joseph Cotten was that mythology guy. I'm likely wrong.
    7) I think I'm really easy.
    8) I've got a ton of stuff to choose from for Deb, BUT:
    9) She tends to hate at least half the stuff I think she'll like. Hilarity should ensue.
    10) No swapsies!! Man up, people!!! Well, maybe not the ladies.
    11) I love you all.

  24. I just thought of one more:

    12) Why are our comment threads much more entertaining than our actual posts?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Damn, Pat, you are concise. So much info in a single (+1) comment post. Well done.

For the record, I have electronica in my collection, but that does not mean I have actually ever heard it. You give me too much credit.

  26. So I figured out how to use this Genius thing in my I-tunes and I thought it would help me if I asked it all nice and stuff if it would tell me songs that were similar to songs Pat had selected for previous Music Clubs. Now I certainly don't claim to be a genius but I can come up with much better "similar" songs than that piece of crap. Of course other Marah songs are going to be similar to the Marah songs Pat picked. What else you got? Seriously? How is that even remotely the same? What's that? Speak up? Hellloo! CompuTER. I'm talking to you. Cat got your tongue or microchip or whatever? Idiot. Stupid, stupid Genius.

  27. Thank you divine inspiration! I have had a breakthrough. I won't have to call in sick after all.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Divine intervention? Why would God help you with this? Are you blackmailing him? What have you got on God that has Him doing your work for you?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I sold my soul to the devil, it seemed divine at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Totally worth it.
I'm expecting great picks from you.

    ReplyDelete
  31. About 3 years ago I sold mine for a good Reuben sandwich.
It was really very good, but now I see I should have saved up for Pat picks.
    Live and learn.

  32. I'm thrilled to have my awesome music friends over on Thursday. I may just dress up for y'll except that I can't wear heels because I have an ankle that looks like it supports Two Ton Tessie. Who is Two Ton Tessie? Was I just mean?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am also thrilled. I also doubt anyone cares as much as I that I have chosen the first song.
Two is close. I can feel it.
Three is not close. I can feel that, too. Three is being a total jerk.

  34. wait, tonights the night, tonight? right?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Very much tonight.
    Are you ready?
I think I am. Changes could be made, but I doubt I have the energy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Happy New Year! I will be eating chinese food tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  37. what a coincidence, all of my songs are in chinese!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Three is always a total jerk. I hate three.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Um...what's a good Chinese beer?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well, I'm going with Belgian so basically I don't know.
