"The what now?"
"Remember? Nov 5th? I'm hosting the Music Club meeting #6."
"Right," says Carol. "I'll in North Carolina. Chowder sounds good."
"It does, doesn't it? How do I make chowder?"
"Use corn and potatoes. You'll have salad, right?"
"Hmm," I say. "Maybe."
"Maybe you should make chili," suggests Carol.
"And corn bread. I'll make turkey chili, I think."
"Does everyone eat turkey?"
"Sure. We all ate pulled pork. Why wouldn't we eat turkey?"
We do, don't we? All eat turkey. Any objections to turkey chili and cornbread to go with our Songs We Like?
Let me know.
I know I'm new to the group and all, but I thought I'd pipe in on the subject - turkey chili sounds scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteAs long as I'm jumping into the frey here, I have a dumb question - is there a minimum # of songs we bring to the party for the theme? Is there a max? Still figuring out the rules of engagement here. Promise to be lower maintenance after my first meeting!
Hello new guy! Bring three songs, the theme this time is pretty simple, three songs that you like that you are currently listening to, I think that was it; group please correct me if I'm wrong.
ReplyDeleteJim-Turkey chili sounds delightful, so where do you live?

ReplyDeleteItunes songs can be a pain to send over cuz of the protection thing.
ReplyDeleteI get around it by following this:
You will need to download TuneClone Audio Converter for Mac first. Run this DRM Removal Software and it will let you install a virtual CD burner, which will be used to convert iTunes music files.
Run iTunes, create a new playlist and add the DRM protected iTunes songs to the playlist.
Right click this playlist and choose "Burn Playlist to Disc". Alternatively, you can click the "Burn Disc" button at the lower right corner of iTunes interface.
In the pop-up dialog of "Burn Settings", select "CDWriter TuneClone" as default CD Burner, choose "Audio CD" as Disc Format and tick "Include CD Text" ( to perserve the music metadata such as name, artist, album names )
But you can also just rip them on a real cd and re-import too.
Marcy wanted me to let everyone know that she has already submitted her selections and they rule in ways we have no ability to comprehend.
ReplyDeletePat wanted me to let everyone know that he has submitted his selections and that they barely clock in at less than fifteen minutes total.
ReplyDeleteOut of courtesy I didn't add the 13 minute jam band song I was thinking about......but it could still end up longer. You people have me second guessing now. I blame Greg.
ReplyDeleteI have troubles of my own. I am trying to whittle my Decemberists playlist down to three songs!
ReplyDeleteJim, turkey is aok.
The writing is so small on computer, I couldn't see very good and thought you told me, "turkey is ack." Once I stopped crying I saw you said, " aok." That's better, I think.
ReplyDeleteHey Jim - what's the best way to get you my songs? Tried clicking your profile and didin't get anywhere. Maybe email? The files are pretty large though...
ReplyDeleteAlso, do I HAVE to only submit 3? Having trouble getting my 5 to 3...but will keep trying.
Hey Brockster- Welcome to our world, three is the magic number. Agonizing isn't it? We usually e-mail the MP3 files to whomever is having the meeting, Pat and Marcy seem to be the masters at e-mailing that stuff so they could probably speak to that better than I.

ReplyDeleteOh and sorry my profile is so useless. I'll try to make it better. OR betterish.
ReplyDeleteI have no sympathy right now for cutting 5 songs down to three.
ReplyDeleteCut a decade down to 40 and then we'll talk.
But as far as the emailing goes, I compress them and then send one at a time. The problems Jim is having is due to the iTunes protection on a couple of them. But he should figure that out just in time for me to change my mind.
Is this where I send my pics?
ReplyDelete1) Oh Valencia - The Decemberists
2) Oh Valencia - The Decemberists
3) Oh Valencia - The Decemberists
*** this joke was inspired by, though not authorised by Pat. Nor does it reflect his aquiesance or support of the group The Decemberists. Thank you.
ps. per Pat's earlier comment re: a decade of work... you'd better cross your fingers that there is nothing decent to listen to in the upcoming year (2010) or your list's got trouble... but if you are using 1999 - 2009... then i acquiese, your list is gold.
ReplyDeleteThat song makes me cry. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm counting the decade from 2000-2009. I vaguely remember the whole millenium starting point controversy, but choose to just make the decade whatever is convenient for me.
ReplyDeleteNew Guy wanted me to let everyone know that he has submitted 2 out of 3 of his selections and that the constant mocking of The Decemberists is unseemly. I have to agree.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I love the decemberists... I actually just love saying (typing) decemberists... It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI also do not like Sting...
I guess we know what that third song was.
ReplyDeleteWell, the song may say, "The first cut is the deepest", but I think we all know it's the third cut that causes the sleepless nights.
ReplyDeleteHave we ever had this many comments on a post before? I believe we're setting records here.
ReplyDeleteNew Guy wanted me to let everyone know that with Herculean effort and internet trickery he has submitted his third and final selection. Prepare to be awed.
ReplyDeleteAh, New Guy has no idea what a jaded, been-there, selected-that group he's joining.
ReplyDeleteYou kids and your "music". Feh.
ReplyDeleteOk...now I'm a little nervous!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm glad I'm not the only nervous one around here. I have to remember to pull down all my NKOTB posters before you guys come over.
ReplyDeleteDeb wanted me to let everyone know that she has submitted her selections and out of solidarity with me one of them sounds a good deal like NKOTB. Thank you Deb.
ReplyDeleteAlso Pat's choices are now trouble free.
I anxiously await Greg's and Larry's choices.
Anxiously.
Jim cracks me up consistently. Or should that be anxiously?
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure if my choices should reflect more of a NKOTB or Backstreet Boy vibe. But since Justin has already brought sexy back, I wanted to give the Kids their due.
ReplyDeleteHey, I missed sexy just like everybody, but the Kids are OG.
ReplyDeleteI'm just saying.
Dear Jim, I need your email address, I don't want to pre-expose the group to my pics... Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh and one more thing, my car is dead and in the shop as of this morning...good, good times.
ReplyDeleteCan someone ferry me to the meeting? I'll be quiet the whole way there, I promise.

ReplyDeleteGreg wanted me to let everyone know he has submitted his three
ReplyDeleteselections. With plenty of time to spare I might add.
I might.
I hope you like them, I really really hope you like me...um, I mean my picks... I hope you all like my pics.
ReplyDeleteWe're carpooling with New Guy. I don't see why we couldn't pick you up as well.....
ReplyDeleteROAD TRIP, what time should I be ready?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure when we're leaving, though I'd think it would need to be by six or so, which would get us to your place hopefully by 6:30 and then to Jim's no later than 9.
ReplyDeleteI'm bad with directions.
I told New Guy we start at 7:00. He seems like a noce guy and all but if nobody else shows up until 9:00 then that means it's just me and him for 2 hours and I'll have to explain the rules and my memory isn't so good and I'm liable to just start making things up and next thing you know we've got a drum circle going and body paint and I don't know, it just seems like a good idea for others to get there at 7.. oh wait, you know what, never mind, New Guy's coming with you and I'm sorry I'm just really nervous you know with the CD burning and the"Itunes does not give you permission" and "Where do I plug this in?" So, anyway, has anyone heard from Larry? He got the last 3 songs.
ReplyDeleteOne of these times I'll share my drum circle story. For those who haven't heard it already.
ReplyDeleteIt's not that great though.
NICE a great set up and a solid let down... i love it.
ReplyDeleteWe're still on for body paints, right? There's this tiny hairless spot on my back that's perfect for a jack-o-lantern or a horses head... or a ship.
OK, I realize this particular thread has long out-stayed its welcome, and I drunk typing a bit, but that was fun. Thanks for coming over and giving me the new songs.
ReplyDeleteFun times & shit-
Thanks-
J
