Spotify Year in Music

Spotify has this pretty dope "year in music" feature. My results were a bit of a yawn (my most played album was the Hamilton cast recording and my most played artist was Kendrick Lamar) except that I kicked off 2015 with "Still Feeling Blue" by Gram Parsons. I did not realize my January started off so January-ish! Happy Holiday music club!

Can I sell this concept? A music club devoted to the musical "Hamilton"? Listen to the soundtrack a few times (or on repeat if you are me). You don't have to get back to me right away, just mull it over. Plus Pat, you know a lot about presidents!

Ahem...Jamiroquai hat, BABY! recollection is that Greg & J are coming up with the next Music Club theme.  I have not seen any such theme as of yet.

Without a theme to guide me I will tend to wander into the avant garde, and let's face it, nobody wants that.

An Anecdote Illustrating The Spread Of Music Club Throughout The World Or At Least Tacoma

We met up with my folks after work yesterday.

Dad:  Hey, come over to the car, we have something for you.
Me:  OK
Dad:  You are in a music club, right?
Me:  Yeah.
Dad:  We've been listening to this lately and your mom wants you to bring it to your club.
*hands me CD of Bob Dylan Modern Times*
Me:  *does not mention that I have this*  Hey that's cool, thanks!!

I love my folks.

This is fascinating article on Spotify data

I may have played a part in the popularity of "No Diggity" on Spotify since the 90's hip-hop station is my personal favorite.

The Triathlon Theme

Welcome to the upcoming theme, THE TRIATHLON (other title options were the TRIPLE CROWN, JIM'S THREESOME and I CAN'T MAKE UP MY MIND). It will take perseverance. It will take dedication. It may take several minutes to make your decisions.

The first leg of the event:
This may be the most difficult for many of you. Choose a song released all the way back in 1965. It was a very good year. You will have plenty to choose from. I know it was a long time ago, but some it may be new to you or at least somebody.

Second leg:
This may be the most difficult for many of you. Choose a song that is less than 2 minutes long. Get in, do your stuff, get out. No muss, no fuss. Although I'm sure there will be some fussing. There will probably be muss as well.

Last leg:
This may be the most difficult for many of you. Choose a song by an artist or band that you nominate for inclusion into the Unofficial Music Club Hall Of Fame. This song doesn't just nominate, though. It makes the deciding vote for automatic inclusion into our made up institute of questionable excellence.
You want the Thompson Twins? Who's gonna stop you?
You really think Anna Kendrick has paid her dues? Well, welcome aboard, you rock star you.
Really? Sting? Um, we may need to talk about this.
This is supposedly an awesome amount of power. Please wield it responsibly.

I made up these sub-themes without giving it any thought, so I have no idea which songs to submit.

These are all subject, of course, to all y'all's approval.

With love-

What happened? Why haven't we met in oh so long? Let's do this thing.

How about Tuesday June 11th? While there may not be do overs in real life we have a chance for a music club choices do overs. Pat and I are happy to host, so please say yes and let me have something to look forward to!

Time, time, time for another Music Club get-together!

Perhaps the back half of April? April 23rd (Roy Orbison's birthday) or April 30 (Bon Iver's birthday)? Gina would pick the 23rd solely on the musician's birthday. My friend Wendy would pick the 23rd too because it's her favorite day of the month. I don't have a preference. Politi, did anyone tell you the theme? It's "Do-over" - you can do over a theme that you may have felt missed the mark or do-over different songs from different themes. Basically it's a redemption theme! Some random musical asides. Pat, though you favor the less sad Beck songs, whenever I hear "Lost Cause", I think to myself that this is one well crafted sad song. I can't explain why I love Elliot Smith so much but Sufjan Stevens leaves me cold (the exception to this is "Casimir Pulaski Day" since I'm not dead inside). Since D'Angelo finally delivered, does that mean The Avalanches are around the corner?

To pimp or not to pimp

Easy answer.

Repeatedly.  It just gets better and better and better.

It's our Valentine's love theme of course and I'll bring out the big guns (rew wine, chocolate).  Greg, do you have some sad love songs in your back pocket?

How about Thursday, Feb. 12th at my place?
