Turntable love

I love playing my albums again. What a delight. Hearing the music the way I first heard it (I swear it sounds different), it's divine. Tonight I played "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" because of an AVCLUB article. http://www.avclub.com/articles/why-the-fatalistic-goodbye-yellow-brick-road-remai,90888/ Yes, I bought that album with my baby sitting money 40 years ago. After playing the album tonight, it was one fine purchase indeed.

  1. Has it seriously been 40 years? That is messed up.

I like the line, "Elton John recorded like Robert Pollard, but he turned out hits like Elvis Presley."

  2. Speaking of love; how does Thursday Feb 21 look for our next music club? Pat and Deb can host.

  3. I LOVE that idea. I'm in. Maybe I should bring something, does everyone eat Oreo's?

  4. Yes! Yes! Yes!
I also LOVE that idea and Oreo's. They got quite well with red wine.

  5. Also, I love Thursdays with Oreos and red wine. How did you know?

  6. If anyone is still searching for the love songs, John in the Morning is BRINGING it!

    1. Debbie here... Here's a thought, reschedule to March 14th? Gina will be in town. Is everyone else available?

    2. I love that idea. I wasn't as fond of the idea of no Politi love.

    3. I can do March 14. In lieu of a meeting, anyone want to meet for a drink or something downtown Thursday night?

    4. You read my mind, music club! I was going to bug you all to meet when I'm in town - this is a win-win!

    5. Hey, is the theme staying the same, if we are indeed meeting March 14th? And it is love songs? Is there a twist I should know about?

    6. Pretty sure it's bring your own twist.

  12. It does feel urban, doesn't it? Any suggestions where it should be? I get off at 5:30.

  13. Actually, can we do urban drinks Wednesday or Friday, instead? I ... um.. I'm in New york on Thursday. No wait... Paris. Not New York. Definitely Paris. On Thursday.

So Wednesday or Friday night is better. Anybody? Drinks tomorrow? Or the day after the day after tomorrow?

    1. Okay. I dropped the urban drinks ball. Actually, Urban Drinks Ball should be a sport.
Maybe we can do it next week? Maybe?
Oh, and love? I had some songs. I had, you know, the theme within the theme. Then some more songs. Then a second theme within a theme. A third tentative theme within. Then cherry picked a song from each theme. So now 3 or 4 songs about love with nothing else to tie them together.
Now I am kind of scrapping that and looking for random songs. Who knows where I'll be in the future? God forbid we postpone the meeting again. I'll just go spinning off into outer space singing SILLY LOVE SONGS over and over interspersed with the word MARE-WIDGE, said like Peter Cook in the Princess Bride.

  14. Actually I'm going to see La Boheme dress rehearsal Thursday night. Sorry.

    1. So La Boheme is actually kind of silly. Of course someone dies at the end but everything leading up to it is an 80s RomCom.

  15. I'm sure you're all dealing with this, or will on your drive to the meeting, but there are tons, literally digital tons, of songs about love. Just going with songs with the word "Love" in the title of the song, supposedly my itunes has 1308 songs. Taking out dupes, podcasts, and ones where "love" is part of a bigger word like "Lye Lovett" and "clover" it's still over 1,000 songs. Only 51 songs have "Loving" in the title. As it turns out 1 of my songs has "loving" in the title, but the other 2 are absent any conjugation of love in the title.
Oh yeah, I picked my choices last week and will not listen to them again until the meeting. It's a little game i play with myself. Maybe I'll forget what they are and be just as surprised as anyone else when they pop up.
    Eager to see everyone.
    Cheers.

    1. One of mine, arguably, may not even involve actual 'love'. Or perhaps, just reveals too much about my disturbing inner life...
      See y'all soon, lovers!!

    2. A couple of my songs require bourbon neat.

    3. When is that not the case.
I have rye in my desk at work. Should I bring it? It's only a quarter full.

  16. Does your song have loving in the title or lovin'? Cuz I'm CRAVING some Englebert. SERIOUSLY.

  17. AND WHY HAS NOONE DONE THAT SONG IN KARAOKE?

  18. I could not sleep at all last night. And while the song was not to blame for the insomnia, it did not help that the verse "So I sing you to sleep after the lovin' " just kept running through my head over and over.
    Exhausting.
I need to learns more of the words.

  19. My favorite part to sing is "And I know that my song
Isn't sayin' anything new." Sigh, I LOVE that song. Maybe Elliot Smith might be staying home tonight.

That's all I got. I know Kurtis Blow does one, as does Public Enemy, but I don't really know them.
